This website describes the experimental 3D laser scanning at Stonehenge undertaken in 2002 and the results announced in 2003.

It is kept online for interest.

It may be updated from time to time to cover more recent laser scanning news relating to Stonehenge.

Update September 2011: English Heritage have announced that the survey and initial data processing of the recent laser scan of Stonehenge is now complete, and present an update with a short video fly-though of the data.

Update March 2011: English Heritage have commissioned a complete 3D laser scan of Stonehenge. More information is available from this BBC article, and from a news article by English Heritage. English Heritage archaeologist Dave Batchelor describes the current project in a video.

This site allows you to discover Stonehenge using laser scanning technology. Archaeologists have found long lost ancient art on the henge.

The results are published in full in the November 2003 issue of British Archaeology, in an article called "The Stonehenge Laser Show".

The research began in the summer of 2002 at Stonehenge and was jointly run by Wessex Archaeology and Archaeoptics Ltd. Access to the monument was kindly provided by English Heritage.

StonehengeA selection of the images included in the article are posted here.

"Lasers Set Stones Alight" sets the scene for the Stonehenge carvings discovered in 2002-3.
